Sinthar

I ran my first game a cuple of years back with my first weekly gaming group. It was based in a D&D world that I sort of tailored to my story. Well, to be fair I never bothered making a full world, just one area called Sinthar, a jungle aread on the west coast of some undefined continent.

This map was from the point of view of a survey done by some recent settlers in Sinthar. The dots are groves, and the little settlement on the west coast is Porttown (I know, they're not very imaginitive), the settlers docklands turned town.

When I started running a prequal to that game last week, I really wanted to make a map of Porttown, but was a little lost when I started it. I just couldn't make it look legible... I contemplated buying some map making software (there's some good stuff out there, but it's expensive. But after looking around, I had ample inspiration to launch myself into a photoshop project.

Red - Residential
Blue - Commercial
Yellow - Warehouses
Turquoise - Inns

Everything else is self explanitory, I hope.

I got most of my inspiration from Profantasy and Fantast Map Maker

I always get my textures from CG textures

I made my own icon/sprite thingies... and I had a whole lot of fun!

Magda

I lived in a 'gamers house' for the best part of a year when I first moved out of my parents and in with my other half. It was disturbingly bachelor-esque and I'd rather not count the amount of coke bottles and pizza boxes that littered the place on a weekly basis. I appreciated the venue a lot more after I moved out again and finally started gaming with them the next year.

The first game I joined was Adventure! A d10 based Indiana Jones style game. More info at http://wiki.white-wolf.com/whitewolf/index.php?title=Adventure!

We were working for the Inquisition, only the inquisition still existed today. The party consisted of knight of the Swiss guard, a priest with demonic powers, a fem fatal mercenary, a monk inventor and later on in the story, a nun and her... nunlings. Magda was the attack dog of the group.

Name: Magda Furgalska
Age: 16
Class: Daredevil
Concept: Loyal psychopath
Likes: God
Loathes: Women

Favourite moments:
Screaming abuse at the nun because she wasn't showing the priest the proper respect.
Trying to kill the fem fatal when she announced her plans to marry said priest.

Back story:
A Polish girl and an only child, her father was abusive and her mother did nothing but protect him. When she was still young (around eight i think), she snapped and stabbed him to death with some kitchen implements. When authorities were finally called, her mother called her a demon and raved that the girl had murdered her beloved. Of course nobody believed her. She was taken away and locked up and Magda was sent to a Roman Catholic orphanage.

Her mother planted the seeds of hate against the 'pathetic, weaker sex' in Magda, but it didn't help that she was raised by nuns. She quickly became a zealot, and saw it as her duty to do the work of God and serve the priests and other male leaders of the Catholic church. Egged on by a mentor of that ilk, she also took it upon herself to punish those wicked girls that dared to call themselves servants and then sin or blaspheme.

Strangely, as a character Magda was well liked. I guess there's something lovable about a vicious dog, so long as you have it's loyalty...

Fray, Kandara, Datoria and Reevle

I'll start with my favourite oldies from chat room rp. I came up with these characters between the ages of 10 and 15, so forgive the dodge. I have no excuse for later characters.

First up has got to be Fratia. This was my first ever character and I literally role played as her when I was a child playing games in my head. I didn't really put a face to her untill I was eleven or twelve when I fleshed her out to play in the yahoo chat rooms. She was quiet, but very curious and loved to just go right up to people and become their friend, like it or not. Almost everyone loved Fratia (or Fray) and I often wished I was more like her, teehee.

Brown eyes, brown hair, slight tan. I tried to make a character that was completely unremarkable to look at, and then tack wings on. The wings were the result of genetic/magic experiments and don't really work well for flying. But they throw a good punch.

I must have been into Sliders when I came up with her back story, because she's always hopping from reality to reality. She has a bunch of friends, namely Shannon and John, her surrogate big brother and sister, and a love interest whos name I could never decide on. He was John's little brother. There was another few including some of Shannons associates, John's boyfriend and a bunch more I can't remember.

It didn't occur to me to double check fantasy names on google when I was ten, so years later I found out that Fratia isn't that original...

Okay, new pic of Kandara here. I'm sure she never used to be quite so ugly, but you get the idea...
Kandara was my attempt at a bad guy. She was pretty hot except for the greenish colour and creeping vine things that plagued her bad skin... I wasn't going for the bad people are ugly idea so much as hot but disturbing one, but I guess she can be read either way :/ She was a bitch and liked to taunt people, but she was also weak as a kitten and a total coward. It was funny to freak people out in the chat games, knowing I couldn't do anything if they stood up against me. It was also interesting to see people feel sorry for Kandara. Her bad skin was a curse, and it was well deserved, but some people want to see good everywhere.
Datoria was my first chat room character. I took up roleplaying for drawing ideas and she was an artist. I often role played sitting in a corner doodling portraits. Sometimes I got requests and sent the portraits to other players.

One day I got a connection error booting me from the room over and over and the character developed itself. Suddenly she was a shapeshifter having trouble holding her form. Only she wasn't really the shifter, but the shape itself, so losing her form would be like dying. The artist in her was trying to create a unique self and appearance which is why drawing was interesting to her.

Reevle was born. Reevle came from Datoria's sub conscious, but concidered herself the real face behind the shifter. She was selfish, vain and very confident. The relationship between the two characters got interesting and I'd love to mock out an animation for them meeting some time.

A big hello.

I've decided to keep reports of my rp characters up here, hopefully with images and stuff. I'll start with a few characters from back in my days of chat room fantasy role play and then continue on with some of the characters I've belted out in the last cuple of years. Hopefully I'll eventually catch up with current events. I'm playing a character in her second game for the first time ever at the moment, so I can give a recap. I can see this ending up more as a doodle page than anything else...
